July 2008
5th - Djangology – this group recreates the exciting and authentic atmosphere of Django Reinhardt
and the Hot Club of France. It is presently funded by the Arts Council as members
of the Musicians in Residence scheme. The quartet comprises two guitars, violin
and double bass played by young, enthusiastic musicians much in demand for “session”
activities. An evening in what might be termed “a lighter style” but which will
undoubtedly swing like fury.
12th - Oriental Jazz Band – from Enkhuizen, home of the Netherland’s famous Jazz Festival. An eight piece
band of engaging and energetic young musicians with an average age in the mid
20s. Unashamedly traditional in style, the band has already appeared at the Abersoch,
Bude and Bute Festivals in the UK. This promises to be a lively evening. www.orientaljazzband.nl
19th - Millennium Eagle Jazz Band – from the Midlands, this band was formed from the long standing Eagle Jazz Band which played
a number of very successful sessions in our former days at the Crown. Now led
by clarinet maestro Matt Palmer - and featuring new and (very) young drummer Jack
Cotterill - the band claims to play in the traditional styles of Armstrong, Biederbeck,
Oliver, Dodds, Morton et al. Just up your street, we suspect.
26th – Terry Brunt’s Dead Good Boys – a first appearance for this recommended group from the North West. Terry is
hugely popular with audiences throughout the UK with his trademark beret and long
scarf and has already entertained us royally on a number of occasions. Tim – ever
the optimist - had this band on his list as the “Drop Dead Gorgeous Band” – best turn up on the night and decide for yourself!
